CBS orders F.B.I. drama from Dick Wolf
US broadcaster CBS has commissioned a 13-episode drama from procedural king Dick Wolf.
F.B.I. (WT) will follow the inner workings on the New York branch of the US criminal investigation agency the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The news will be of interest to international acquisitions executives, who have been urging US broadcasters to commission more procedural drama, which provide steady ratings in most territories.
Universal Television, where Wolf (pictured) has a production pact, is coproducing with CBS Television Studios. Wolf, Craig Turk (The Good Wife), Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski are executive producers, with Turk showrunner and writer of the pilot.
Wolf is well known internationally as creator of procedural franchises such as Law & Order and Chicago Fire. He currently has five series on NBC, and also produces unscripted shows such as Cold Justice for Oxygen and Nightwatch for A&E.
The series will broadcast in the 2018-19 broadcast season.
In related new season news, The CW has put The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina into development.
The show is considered a companion to CW drama Riverdale, as both hail from the Archie Comics stable and are from the same production teams: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
The drama is billed as dark in tone, considerably different to ABC’s upbeat 1990s comedy Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
