Apple to shy away from nudity in upcoming originals
Apple is set to stay away from nudity, violence and foul language in its upcoming originals, it has been reported.
Bloomberg has reported that a dozen people involved in projects and execs from the company have confirmed that Apple shows will aim to serve a “broad audience” and stay away from stylistically edgy shows such as Game of Thrones (pictured) and The Deuce.
Apple will instead aim for comedies and melodramas such as This Is Us, according to the piece.
It has also been claimed that Apple CEO Tim Cook became directly involved in episodes of one of its few current shows, Carpool Karaoke, which have featured celebs such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba and Chelsea Handler, to remove references made about vaginal hygiene and foul language.
Apple has been notoriously secretive about what it will deliver as part of its upcoming content strategy, but has hired top talent from Sony bosses Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, Amazon’s Morgan Wandell and most recently former Channel 4 exec Jay Hunt, who has been confirmed as European video chief.
The news arrives after Tim Cook discussed an “intense interest” in television this time last year after acquiring James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke.
Since the move, Apple has come close to ordering a Stephen Spielberg anthology drama and has been rumored to be bidding for a new Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston comedy.
