Exorcist producer Morgan Creek rejigs
US prodco Morgan Creek Productions has rebranded as it prepares to push further into television with a new slate of shows and planned reboots.
The company will now be known as Morgan Creek Entertainment Group (MCEG), which will target TV reboots of movie franchises from its library such as Ace Ventura, Dead Ringers, Diabolique and Clive Barker’s Nighbreed, original series and non-scripted shows for all platforms.
These are being packaged for feature film, TV and digital platforms, with the hope they are easily adaptable and will light up social media. Short form content, graphic novels, live event productions and video games are also in the works.
Morgan Creek first pushed into TV through a reboot of horror movie The Exorcist, which Fox has ordered for a second season.
MCEG is planning to work up new “cross platform strategies with studios, buyers, talent agencies and major showrunners in search of coveted brand names as well as original content”.
James G. Robinson and Joe Roth launched Morgan Creek in 1988, with the former’s son, David Robinson (pictured), now leading the business.
“Morgan Creek’s globally recognized brand and premium titles are an ideal fit for the extraordinary creative revolution taking place in the television and digital worlds today,” said David Robinson, who executive produces The Exorcist.
“Given the quality of our library, we are in a unique position among independent content-driven companies to take advantage of the many opportunities this new world presents, thanks to the foresight shown by James Robinson over the past 30 years.”
