Netflix to launch Brazilian period drama
Netflix is set to produce its latest Brazilian original series, Coisa Mais Linda, a period drama set in the 1950s during the birth and cultural revolution of Bossa Nova in Rio de Janeiro.
The 8x60mins drama will begin filming in 2018. It follows Maria Luiza, a conservative dutiful woman who ends up running a Bossa Nova club in Rio.
Produced by Prodigo Films for Netflix, the series was created by Heather Roth and Giuliano Cedroni, and written by Pati Corso and Leo Moreira. It is produced by Beto Gauss, Francesco Civita and Caito Ortiz.
“We’re eager to continue investing in the incredible storytelling Brazil has to offer, and our partners at Prodigo Films have captured just that with Coisa Mais Linda,” said Erik Barmack, Netflix’s VP of international original content.
“Apart from being set to a vibrant time in Brazilian culture, the series tells a broader story about self-discovery, the pursuit of dreams and the emancipation of women that will be incredibly relevant to our audiences both in Brazil and globally.
Coisa Mais Linda joins a diverse slate of Netflix original productions out of Brazil. In 2018, Netflix will premiere the second season of 3%, plus two new original series: O Mecanismo, and the sitcom Samantha! starring Emanuelle Araújo and Douglas Silva.
This lineup of original content includes documentaries such as Laerte-se, and stand-up comedy specials featuring Felipe Neto, Marco Luque and Clarice Falcão.
