Fox rejigs drama after Thorn promotion

Twentieth Century Fox Television has restructured its drama team following Michael Thorn’s promotion to president of entertainment at Fox Broadcasting in August.

Terence Carter has been upped from executive VP of drama programming, development and event series at Fox to EVP of development for drama and comedy at cousin Twentieth TV.

In effect, this means he replaces Thorn, who was upped to entertainment chief after David Madden moved to become programming boss at The Walking Dead network AMC.

Carter’s promotion also leaves a hole at broadcaster Fox, which former company exec Charlie Andrews will fill.

Andrews had left Fox to become director of original series at Netflix, but is returning as EVP of drama programming, development and event series.

Carter will report to Twentieth’s president of creative affairs, Jonnie Davis, while Andrews reports to Thorn.

Since joining Fox in 2009 from NBC, Carter is credited with developing series such as Empire, Gotham and Lucifer.

“When Michael was tapped for the network presidency, there was only one executive I thought of who could possibly fill his shoes,” said Davis.

“Terence is a smart and strategic programmer who already has a shorthand with our creative teams. I couldn’t be happier he will be joining us.”

Andrews, who initially joined Fox from NBCUniversal, has worked on shows such as Star, Lethal Weapon and Sleepy Hollow.

“Charlie is an extremely well respected executive with impeccable taste and longstanding relationships throughout the creative community,” added Thorn. “We’ve been friends and colleagues for almost a decade and I can’t wait for him to return to the Fox family and re-join the incredible team we have in place.”
