ABC’s Good Doctor travels to Japan with Wowow
Japan’s premium pay-TV broadcaster Wowow has acquired exclusive Japanese broadcast rights to hit drama series The Good Doctor.
The Sony Pictures Television and ABC copro, which currently airs on ABC in the US, is set to premiere in Japan on April 2018.
The series has been a breakout hit in the States, becoming the number one rated drama of the 2017/18 season.
Sony Pictures Television and ABC’s drama is an American medical-drama television series, developed by David Shore and based on the 2013 South Korean series of the same name.
It follows Freddie Highmore as a young surgeon who has savant syndrome and relocates from quiet country life to join the surgical unit at a prestigious hospital.
Shore (House) serves as showrunner and Daniel Dae Kim is executive producer. The series is made in association with production companies Shore Z Productions, 3AD and Entermedia.
The Good Doctor was ordered to series in May. In October, ABC picked up the series for a full season of 18 episodes. The series is primarily filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia.
