Dan Mintz buys comic book house Valiant
Dan Mintz’s DMG Entertainment has acquired the shares in US-based comic book publisher and IP owner Valient Entertainment it didn’t already own.
DMG has owned 57% of Valiant since 2014, but the new deal represents the former’s plans to better exploit the latter’s catalogue of characters on screen.
Valiant has a library of around 2,000 characters, including X-O Manowar and Bloodshit, while DMG is behind movies such as Looper and the upcoming Bastards.
Together the companies have been working on features, television, publishing and licensing since 2015.
Valiant’s current TV series include Getaway Productions coproduction Quantum and Woody and Dr Mirage, which is being coproduced with CBS Television Studios and broadcast network The CW.
Valiant, which has the third largest comic book character library after Disney-owned Marvel Entertainment and Warner Bros.’s DC Comics, launched in 1999.
“Our priority is to build upon Valiant’s vast universe of characters from a filmmaker’s perspective,” said Mintz, a media investor whose business has operates in Hollywood and Asia. “I’m excited to immerse Valiant’s fans well beyond the stories we tell cinematically – from publishing to gaming to theme parks and beyond.”
