In-demand chart: Germany (January 28-February 2, 2018)
The amount of online articles and social media chatter around Star Trek: Discovery translates into a solid win for the CBS and Netflix sci-fi series in our latest demand expressions charts.
The series – which CBS Television Studios, Secret Hideout, Roddenberry Entertainment and Living Dead Guy Productions coproduce – tops both the digital and overall charts.
While it took almost three times the demand of second place digital show Stranger Things, it was marginally ahead of the German version of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and (Ich Bin Ein Star, Holt Mich Hier Raus) and Vikings, whose fifth season concluded in the US on January 24 – 14.4 million over 11.4 million and 11.1 million respectively.
Vikings plays locally on Amazon Prime Video, which once again sees The Grand Tour penetrate the digital top ten.
Netflix’s latest sci-fi drama, Altered Carbon, places at a lowly eighth overall. The series – from British science fiction writer Richard K. Morgan – was ahead of Orange is the New Black and The End of the F***ing World, but might have been expected to feature higher up the list considered the marketing push on and offline.
Conspicuous by absence is the Amazon original show, You Are Wanted. The series generated plenty of press attention as the first high-end German SVOD original, but hasn’t translated to demand expressions, however.
Netflix’s first German original, Dark, does feature in the digital top ten, coming fifth. Critically, the show has been a big hit and that could now be translating to streams.
In the overall chart, three locally produced shows are present: RTL’s version I’m a Celebrity… (aka Das Dschungelcamp), ZDF’s political satire Heute-show (in the Daily Show) and Deutschland Sucht Den Superstar (Germany’s version of Idol).
