Netflix to open Future Strategy Office as Korean sitcom
Netflix is set to launch a new South Korean sitcom with YG Entertainment, a music record and production company, in 2018.
Future Strategy Office (FSO, working title) will feature YG artists Seungri of Korean pop group BigBang alongside writer and television personality Yoo Byung-jae of SNL Korea.
FSO stars Seungri as the head of YG’s newly formed department, The Future Strategy Office, where many of YG’s troublemakers have been sent.
The sitcom series will follow Seungri and his team of misfits as they work to regain their place in the company.
The will also have various guest appearances by other K-pop groups including BlackPink, iKon and Winner.
Directed by Park Joon-soo, the eight-episode series will be written by Kim Min-seok.
Joon-soo said: “We are ambitiously introducing the new show YG FSO and are looking forward to it being introduced in 190 countries around the world.
“We plan on introducing more quality entertainment content that many people can enjoy.”
Erik Barmack, VP of international original series at Netflix, said: “We are excited to team up with YG Entertainment and Seungri of BigBang to introduce YG FSO. We will continue to bring great Korean content for our viewers around the world to enjoy.”
This week, Netflix also added animation Tuca & Bertie, from the team behind BoJack Horseman, to its slate and ordered a new documentary series The Alcasser Murders for 2019.
It has also secured the next four movies from the Duplass Brothers.
