Jon Favreau creating Star Wars drama for Disney SVOD service
Producer-writer Jon Favreau is writing and executive producing a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s upcoming global SVOD service.
He will work with Star Wars studio Lucasfilm on the series, which is a number Disney is lining for the network.
“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
“Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
The Disney service is planned to launch in 2019, but no release date was given for the Favreau drama series.
Favreau is best known as director of films such as Iron Man, The Jungle Book and the upcoming Lion King reboot, and recently worked on Fox sci-fi series The Orville.
Disney has already teased Star Wars originals for its upcoming service.
