Apple plans Spring/Summer 2019 launch for originals slate
Apple is set to release its range of TV titles for Spring or Summer 2019, according to a New York Times report.
The report claims that producers and entertainment executives who have recently met with Apple executives have confirmed the date.
The sources have also stated that all productions will have a “bright, optimistic” outlook to fit with the Apple brand. Last October, it had also been reported that Apple is set to shy away from nudity, violence and offensive language in its titles.
While Apple spoke directly to the NYT, it is yet to confirm how it will distribute shows.
There are currently about 12 titles that have been commissioned by Apple, which has signed deals with Reese Witherspoon, Steven Spielberg, Damien Chazelle, M. Night Shyamalan, Jennifer Aniston and Kristen Wiig.
Heading up the division are Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht (pictured) — the former co-presidents of Sony Pictures Television, who joined in the summer of 2017.
If the reports are correct, then Apple’s titles will be released roughly around the same time as Disney’s anticipated SVOD debut.
