HBO picks up Obama doc The Final Year
HBO has picked up exclusive rights to The Final Year, which follows former President Obama’s foreign policy team during his last year in office.
HBO will debut the doc on May 21. It will also be available on HBO On Demand, HBO Now, HBO Go and partners’ streaming platforms.
The Final Year takes an insider’s look at key figures, including Secretary of State John Kerry, UN Ambassador Samantha Power, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes and National Security Advisor Susan Rice, as they sought to promote diplomacy and redefine how the US confronts questions of war and peace, all while preparing to hand over the machinery of American power to a new administration.
The doc is directed by Greg Barker and produced by Julie Goldman, John Battsek, Greg Barker.
Co-executive producers include Kerstin Emhoff and Andrew Ruhemann. For HBO, Nancy Abraham is senior producer and Sheila Nevins executive producer.
Events chronicled in the doc include Obama becoming the first US president to visit Laos, key meetings around the Syria war and events of election night in 2016 when it becomes clear Hillary Clinton will not be the next president.
