Hulu picks up thriller from Wattpad, AwesomenessTV & Grammnet
Hulu has made a straight-to-series order of Light as a Feather, a thriller from Wattpad Studios, AwesomenessTV and Kelsey Grammer’s prodco Grammnet.
Light as a Feather is based on Zoe Aarensen’s supernatural thriller, which appeared on Wattpad’s digital reading service reaching 2.9 million reads.
The story follows five teen girls as they deal with the supernatural fallout stemming from an innocent game of “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board.”
When the girls start dying off in the exact way that was predicted, the survivors must figure out why they’re being targeted — and whether the evil force hunting them down is one of their own.
The 10-episode horror series, which starts production in June, is a joint venture between Wattpad, AwesomenessTV and Grammet.
Lee Fleming Jr. is the creator and executive producer of the title and will be joined by AwesomenessTV’s Jordan Levin, Shelley Zimmerman, Joe Davola and Brett Bouttier to exec produce.
Wattpad’s Aron Levitz and Eric Lehrman will also produce alongside Grammnet’s Tom Russo, Brian Sher and Stella Bulochnikov.
AwesomenessTV and Hulu are the latest companies to work with Wattpad Studios to find new voices and IP for screens all over the world. In February, Wattpad, Tongal, and CW Seed launched the pilot episode of Cupid’s Match, based on Lauren Palphreyman global Wattpad hit of the same name.
“Light as a Feather is a captivating and unique story, with supernatural twists and thrills that readers all over the world have fallen in love with,” said Aron Levitz, head of Wattpad Studios. “The story is another example of a Wattpad fan favorite that is perfect for adaptation and new life on another platform. We’re excited to be working with AwesomenessTV and Hulu to bring Light as a Feather to a new audience in a new format, while also giving the story’s millions of current fans another way to enjoy the story they couldn’t put down.”
