Apple orders comedy from It’s Always Sunny duo

Apple has given a straight-to-series order to a half-hour comedy by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia duo Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day.

The comedy is set in a video game development studio and explores the intricacies of the human condition in the hub.

The untitled series is written by McElhenney and Day and signifies the first project they have taken on together since It’s Always Sunny. The duo will also executive produce under their RCG banner.

Apple’s new comedy is from the Lionsgate/3 Arts Entertainment venture Ubisoft, with 3Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Nicholas Frenkel working on the project, alongside Ubisoft’s Gérard Guillemot, Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik.

At RGC McElhenney, Day and Sunny’s Glenn Howerton all executive produce various projects, including Fox’s upcoming comedy The Cool Kids, which Day co-stars, writes and exec produces with McElhenney.

The comedy becomes one of the many titles set to appear on Apple’s upcoming streaming service in 2019. The platform has already signed projects from Hailee Steinfeld, J.J. Abrams and Reese Witherspoon.
