DC Universe streamer due for September launch
Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are due to launch their digital subscription service, DC Universe, in the US on September 15.
The service will offer new original live-action and animated series, older TV series and films and a curated selection of digital comic books – all featuring DC characters like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.
New original series Titans is due to debut on DC Universe on October 12. Subscribers will also be able to buy exclusive merchandise and get access to breaking DC news and a ‘DC-centric encyclopaedia’.
DC Universe will be available for US$7.99 per month or US$74.99 annually. The service is operated by Warner Bros. Digital Networks in collaboration with DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Digital Labs.
Warner Bros. becomes the latest of a range of major US studios to invest in a streaming platform. It is likely to come into direct competition with Disney, which has revealed that Marvel titles will be prominently placed in its upcoming streamer, set to launch in 2019.
