Smithsonian ups Giraldi to EVP of digital
Smithsonian Channel has promoted Joseph Giraldi to executive VP of digital media.
Previously, Giraldi acted as senior VP of digital media, where he was responsible for building and leading a fully integrated digital media team and overseeing strategy, marketing, and product and business development for the channel.
Giraldi also led the development and launch of Smithsonian Earth, an OTT subscription streaming video service featuring nature and wildlife programmes.
Additionally, Giraldi shepherded all efforts behind creating and launching original digital content and series for Smithsonian Channel’s digital platforms and Smithsonian Earth.
Prior to joining Smithsonian Networks, Giraldi worked as an independent digital media and marketing consultant. Previously, he had been the director of digital distribution and strategic partnerships at HBO.
“As a key member of the strategic leadership team here at the Channel over the last nine years, Joseph has led the company’s aggressive expansion into the ever-evolving digital space,” said Tom Hayden, president of Smithsonian Channel.
“He is always conceptualising and implementing ways to move our business forward, while pioneering initiatives that are keeping us competitive in today’s media landscape.”
