Netflix partners with Daredevil showrunner for Brazilian original
Netflix has partnered with the showrunner behind Marvel’s Daredevil, Douglas Petrie, for new Brazilian original, Spectros.
Petrie, the acclaimed writer and director of titles such as Buffy – The Vampire Slayer, will partner with Brazilian prodco Moonshot Pictures in the upcoming eight-episode series.
Production on the project begins in November, with a global debut date set in 2019.
Spectros is a supernatural thriller that explores long-buried stories that have been lying dormant for years in a São Paulo neighbourhood.
Based on the concept developed by Michael Ruman, Anderson Almeida, and Antônio de Freitas, the series has been created and written by Petrie, who also oversees the scripts as executive producer and will direct the series.
Michael Ruman, Anderson Almeida, Antônio de Freitas, Janaína Tokitaka and Paula Knudsen will also join as writers. Roberto D’Avila and Suraia Lenktaitis from Moonshot will produce.
“Spectros will bring us unique stories deeply rooted in Brazilian culture that touches upon universally appealing themes of love, vengeance, and redemption making it an exciting show for everyone,” said Erik Barmack, vice president of international originals at Netflix. “We are thrilled to bring the Liberdade untold stories to Netflix members around the globe while showcasing the many facets of Latin America’s largest city.”
Spectros joins the slate of Netflix original series produced in Brazil, such as 3%, The Mechanism, Samantha!, Most Beautiful Thing, Sintonia, Nobody’s Looking, Super Drags, Invisible Cities, The Faction and The Chosen One.
