Channel 5 commissions obs doc series Code Zero
Channel 5 has commissioned Zinc Media’s Reef Television to produce Code Zero: Police Under Attack (working title).
The 4 x 60-minute series explores the alarming rise in police ‘Code Zero’ callouts – the radio call issued by officers who need urgent assistance, often when they are under attack or their lives are in danger.
As violent crime escalates in the UK, and with police numbers cut, a code zero call out goes out every six minutes.
Alongside the real-time footage captured at the time of call, participant teams and responders involved will ensure that every ‘Code Zero’ call documented will be recorded. The series will expose, examine and empathise with the dangerous situations police forces face every day.
The executive producer for Reef Television is Rachel Platt. The commissioning editor for Channel 5 is Daniel Pearl.
Pearl said: “When Reef Television came to us with this series I knew immediately that this would resonate with Channel 5 audiences. The series will be poignant, intense and timely as police forces across the country face greater demands on tighter budgets.”
