BBC Three’s Stupid Man Smart Phone lands in Singapore
Kalel Productions’ BBC Three fact ent format Stupid Man, Smart Phone is heading to Singapore.
BBC Studios Distribution has sold the 8 x 30-minute format into Mediacorp’s English-language free-to-air network Channel 5.
The show, which was originally produced by Kalel and Second Star Productions in association with BBC Brit, will be available on Mediacorp’s OTT platform Toggle following TX.
The award-winning format, which was devised by Matthew McGough, features a city-dwelling comedian attempting some of the world’s toughest outdoor adventures with only a mobile phone to help.
The Singaporean edition will be hosted by actor-comedian Hirzi Zulkiflie, who will be joined by celebrity guests each week. Together, they will go on ambitious expeditions, relying only on their online fan base to complete the tasks.
The series will be shot in Malaysia and Indonesia.
Stupid Man, Smart Phone has also sold into India, where it aired on Viacom-owned VOD service Voot.
Myleeta Aga, senior SVP and GM for BBC Studios South and South East Asia, said: “In Singapore, 84% [of people] are now online, and 75% of them are active mobile social users.
“Stupid Man, Smart Phone is a timely, entertaining and poignant reminder of how dependent we have become on our smart phones. We are confident that the series will resonate and be enjoyed by Channel 5 and Toggle audiences in Singapore.”
Kalel CEO Nick Parnes added: “It’s been brilliant to see Kalel’s Stupid Man, Smart Phone format rolling out in different countries, and now to see it brought to life in Singapore is incredibly exciting.”
