FX strikes first UK output deal with the BBC

Disney-owned cable channel FX has struck its first UK output deal, linking with the BBC.

The American Crime Story and Feud channel has signed a three-year licensing deal with the public broadcaster, which will be the home of future scripted FX programs in the UK, as well as shows such as Pose and Sons Of Anarchy spin-off Mayans M.C. 

New FX shows set to air on the BBC include the Cate Blanchett-fronted Mrs. America, which centers on lawyer and Conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly, in addition to the Matt Berry-starring What We Do In The Shadows, one of the hot titles at this year’s LA Screenings, as well as tech thriller Devs from Ex Machina filmmaker Alex Garland and a Lin-Manuel Miranda-directed project on dancer-choreographer Bob Fosse.

The partnership extends the relationship between the BBC and FX, which co-produced the Tom Hardy-starrer Taboo. BBC Two has also aired such programs as American Crime Story, Feud and Atlanta.

FX Networks is part of Fox’s entertainment assets, which were acquired by Disney. The Mouse is to take possession of these assets next year.

The pact – which was brokered by Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution – could mean that Disney’s planned global streaming service will not include FX programming in the UK, as the deal gives BBC streaming rights for iPlayer.

FX recently struck a similar deal with Foxtel Australia.
