NBC to adapt Red Arrow’s Einstein procedural
US broadcaster NBC is to remake German crime procedural Einstein.
Red Arrow Studios International sold the format into NBC, which will be produced by Universal TV in association with Carol Mendelsohn Productions and Intrigue Entertainment.
The original series (32 x 45 minutes) follows Albert Einstein’s great grandson who is forced to work with the police to solve crimes. The show was commissioned by Germany’s SAT.1 and produced by Zeitsprung Pictures.
The show has been recommissioned for a third season on SAT.1, and has sold into more than 100 territories, including Sony’s AXN channels in Spain and Portugal. The format is currently being adapted in Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Red Arrow Studios International handles global sales of the format and finished tape.
Charmed’s Matthew Reisz is on board to write the US show and will also serve as an executive producer, alongside Carol Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz of Carol Mendelsohn Productions; Red Arrow Studio’s Jan David Frouman; and Red Arrow Studios International’s Henrik Pabst and Shirley Bowers.
Tariq Jalil, Joe Wiggs and Lucas Carter will co-produce for Intrigue.
Bo Stehmeier, executive VP of global sales for Red Arrow Studios International, said: “Einstein has found a huge fan-base in its home territory and overseas. We are delighted the series is now being developed for the US and we’re looking forward to seeing how our partners adapt these sharp, original scripts and characters for their domestic market.”
