Fox’s 24 gets Japanese adaptation with TV Asahi

Fox’s action drama 24 is getting a local remake in Japan for free-TV player TV Asahi.

The 24-episode series, which follows a counter-terrorist agent as he tackles a case over the period of 24 hours, is to make an appearance on the Japanese broadcaster after it struck a deal with Fox’s TV distribution arm, 20th Century Fox TV Distribution.

The deal marks the first scripted format agreement between the two players, and the second remake deal for 24, which also made a localised appearance in India.

There is little detail about the Japanese adaptation apart from the fact that it will air in 2020 as part of TV Asahi’s 60th anniversary slate.

The original series, which premiered in 2001, was produced by Imagine Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. It ran for nine seasons and won 20 Emmy Awards over its run.
