Int’l Emmy Kids Awards winners revealed

The winners of the seventh International Emmy Kids Awards have been revealed the UK’s Hey Duggee, Dutch toon Kop Op and Brazil’s Ratburger taking honours.

Issue-based titles gained the highest proportion of the awards, which were presented at a ceremony at MIPTV in Cannes, in partnership with Reed Midem, yesterday (9 April).

Norways NRK and Bivrost Film & TV took home the honours for the Kids: Digital initiative. NRK used a range of its channels to open a dialogue about sexual abuse across one week, for the campaign.

The Kids: Factual award went to the UK’s My Life: Born to Vlog. The title follows 12-year-old Nikki Lilly, a vlogger who defies people who have called her a “monster” and “disgusting” due to a rare, life threatening medical condition.

Meanwhile, Globo’s Malhação: Viva a Diferença (Young Hearts) won the award for Kids: Series. In the story, placed during a subway malfunction, five girls get stuck in the same car and one of them goes into labor. The other girls work together to help her. Despite their different backgrounds, experiences and personalities, the new friends will discover how enriching it can be to live, confront and celebrate diversity.
