Hulu takes US rights to Lightbox’s Harvey Weinstein doc

Hulu has paid a seven figure sum for US rights to Untouchable, Lightbox’s feature documentary about the Harvey Weinstein scandal which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

Directed by Ursula McFarlane, Untouchable was produced by Simon Chinn, Jonathan Chinn and Poppy Dixon.

Embankment Films negotiated the deal on behalf of the producers, and will handle the theatrical roll-out in international markets prior to Hulu’s release.

The acquisition is Hulu’s third out of Sundance.

The story of the rise and fall of Weinstein, Untouchable will have its European Premiere at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival in June.

Embankment head of sales Calum Gray negotiated the deal with Hulu’s Belisa Balaban.

Untouchable is a co-production with the BBC, which will air the film on BBC Two following its theatrical release.

Media Finance Capital financed the film alongside the BBC. David Gilbery and Charles Dorfman, for MFC, and Simon Young and Tom McDonald for the BBC, are executive producers.
