Germany returns to ‘Big Brother’
German broadcaster Sat.1 has ordered a local version of Endemol Shine Group (ESG)’s reality format Big Brother, five years after the show last aired in the country.
It will be produced by Endemol Shine Germany, which is also behind a forthcoming celebrity version that is set to launch 9 August, and marks the latest revival of the veteran format.
TVN7 in Poland recently finished airing its version after a decade-long hiatus, while Nelonen in Finland is preparing to air its show on its Jim and Ruutu network in the autumn. It’s being produced by Endemol Shine Finland, having last aired five years ago.
Big Brother is marking its 20th anniversary this year having debuted in the Netherlands in 1999, before going on to be remade around the world including in the UK, the US, Italy (pictured), Australia and France. ESG said 28 productions of the format aired across 21 territories in 2018.
