Sales round-up: Beta scores for drama trio; Wag TV inks 50-hour Polish deal
Germany’s Beta Film seals deals for drama trio
Beta Film has struck a series of deals for dramas The Pier (pictured), Trigger and Hassel with the likes of German streamer Joyn, HBO Baltics and SBS Australia.
Joyn – ProSiebenSat.1’s joint venture with Discovery – has acquired all three dramas, while in the Baltics, Spanish drama The Pier was picked up by HBO.
It was also acquired for Australia by SBS, for Canada by Radio Canada’s SVOD service TOU.TV Extra and for the Middle East by MBC. Beta is in the process of closing a US deal for the title.
The limited series is created by showrunner duo Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato – best known for Money Heist/La Casa de Papel – and produced by Movistar+ in collaboration with Atresmedia Studios and Vancouver Media.
Elsewhere, Hassel has been acquired by MVS NET for Latin America, Canal+ in Poland and Czech TV, among others.
The ten-hour production by Nice Drama, in co-production with Viaplay, Beta Film and Lunanime, follows the story of Hassel, a street-smart detective heading an organised crime task force in Stockholm, whose father figure and mentor is brutally murdered.
Trigger, produced by Sreda for Channel One Russia, is one of the most successful and widely travelling Russian series ever, and follows a psychologist who practices “provocative therapy” in which he brutally confronts his patients with their fears.
The Pier and Trigger both premiered at MIPCOM.
Wag TV strikes 50-hour deal for Poland
Wag Entertainment, the sales arm of UK producer Wag TV, has inked a 50-hour factual package deal with Polish broadcaster Telewizja Polsat.
The 50-hour package includes the original series The Great War in Numbers (6 x 60 minutes), World War 2 In Numbers (pictured, 8 x 60 minutes), True Evil: Making of a Nazi (6 x 60 minutes), What on Earth?: Season 5 (20 x 50 minutes) and Strange Evidence S1 (10 x 60 minutes).
The Great War in Numbers and World War 2 in Numbers provide new ways of telling stories from the wars, while True Evil: Making of a Nazi explores the origins of Nazism.
Meanwhile, What On Earth? investigates mysterious objects and events on earth, as seen from space, while Strange Evidence provides rational scientific explanations for bizarre and seemingly impossible things caught on security surveillance cameras.
Janice Strangward, SVP of sales at Wag Entertainment, said: “Our storytelling continues to keep viewers engaged. We are delighted that these compelling and revealing programmes will be shared with Polish audiences.”
