Nippon TV names chairman and president

Dragon’s Den creator Nippon TV has promoted its president and one of its senior executives to new positions at the Japanese broadcaster.

Yoshinobu Kosugi (pictured) was most recently exec VP at the organisation and has already taken up his new role of president at the Japanese network, which is behind scripted formats such as Mother.

He takes the position previously held by Yoshio Okubo, who has in turn been promoted to become chairman and CEO at the broadcaster. Kosugi reports into Okubo, who was most recently president and CEO at Nippon TV.

Nippon TV operates a raft of channels within Japan as well as regional network Gem, launched through a joint venture with Sony Pictures Television Networks.

The company restructured its international business two years ago and has secured a raft of remakes for its formats, with local versions of Dragon’s Den airing in 35 countries and scripted series Mother being remade in Turkey.

The company is also behind streaming service Hulu Japan and earlier this year struck a deal with Red Arrow Studios International to distribute new gameshow format Beat the Rooms, which debuted on the Japanese network.
