FX orders TV adaptation of Hannah Fidell’s ‘A Teacher’
Disney-owned US cabler FX has ordered a 10-part limited series based on Hannah Fidell’s 2013 movie A Teacher, with Ozark‘s Jason Bateman and Safe‘s Danny Brocklehurst onboard.
A Teacher is being produced by FX Productions, with Fidell (6 Years) writing, directing and exec producing. The show stars Kate Mara (House of Cards) and Nick Robinson (Love, Simon), and explores the repercussions of a female high school teacher who is caught in an affair with her male student.
Fidell is joined by fellow exec producers by Michael Costigan (Brokeback Mountain) and Bateman, who is attached via his Aggregate Films banner. Brocklehurst (Ordinary Lies) and Mara also exec produce.
Gina Balian, president of original programming at FX Entertainment, said: “Hannah Fidell is an exceptional filmmaker we have long admired for her intuitive ability to bring complex stories to life with depth and grace.
“We are thrilled to partner with Hannah, Kate Mara, Michael Costigan, Jason Bateman and Danny Brocklehurst to adapt A Teacher into a limited series for FX, with Kate leading an extraordinary cast along with Nick Robinson.”
Mara and Robinson star respectively as a popular young teacher at a suburban Texas high school, and an all-American high school senior.
Fidell added: “I couldn’t ask for a more perfect partner who, from day one, has understood and embraced the inherent complexities and nuance required for such subject matter.”
