Sky expands Irish comedy slate with stand-up order
UK-based pay TV operator Sky 1 has ordered a five-part stand-up comedy show from the producers behind the Irish version of Gogglebox.
The as-yet untitled series will star Irish comedian Deirdre O’Kane and will be filmed as live from Dublin’s Olympia Theatre, featuring a mixture of established comedy stars and new talent.
It is being produced by Kite, the team behind Gogglebox Ireland, Ireland’s Fittest Family, Ireland’s Got Talent and more recently Copper Face Jacks: The Musical, and is expected to air on Sky next autumn.
The commission comes two years after Sky created a €2.2 million (US$2.6 million) fund to find Irish entertainment programming.
The satcaster has previously ordered shows such as 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy from producers in the country.
