Banijay Rights gets first look at Proper Content
Banijay Rights has signed a first-look, multi-year development deal with UK factual specialist Proper Content, which has a raft of projects in the works with broadcasters.
The agreement will see Proper Content developing and producing series for the UK and international markets with the distribution arm of Banijay Group, with three factual shows in the works.
Suicidal: In Our Own Words (1 x 90 minutes) and How You Can Help Stop Suicide (1 x 30 minutes) are both being produced for Channel 5 and will air later today, while The School That Tried To End Racism (working title, 2 x 60 minutes) will broadcast on Channel 4.
Proper Content, which also has shows in the pipeline with the BBC, was launched in 2016 by creative director David DeHaney, the former Love Productions, Nutopia and RDF exec. His credits include BBC duo Tough Young Teachers for the BBC and The Woman Who Woke Up Chinese, as well as Young, Autistic and Stagestruck for C4.
Adam Black, senior factual acquisitions executive at Banijay Rights, said: “We’re really looking forward to working with David and his team at Proper Content with some truly great projects already under their belt.
“We are delighted to be able to help grow Proper Content, enabling the company to develop even more unique productions that have both UK and international resonance. This new relationship with another exciting UK indie again highlights our ongoing strategy to build our portfolio of outstanding third party production partners.”
The deal was brokered off the back of both parties meeting during the Indielab Accelerator, which helps independent production companies to scale up.
