HBO Max adds Fox, Universal, A+E execs to work across drama

HBO Max has added executives from Fox Entertainment, Universal Content Productions (UCP) and A+E Studios to work across the forthcoming streamer’s growing scripted slate.

Former Fox exec Roberto Alcantara, Universal’s Chika Chukudebelu and A+E’s Mark Tuohy have all become VP of drama at the WarnerMedia outfit, with a remit to create originals for the streamer.

Alcantara was most recently VP of comedy development & programming at Fox Entertainment, working on shows such as Last Man Standing and Bless The Harts.

Chika was VP of development at UCP and before that worked for BET, with credits on Being Mary Jane, and Tuohy was VP of creative affairs at A+E Studios. He worked on dramas such as Project Blue Book and Reprisal.

All three report into EVP of original drama Joey Chavez and follow a series of scripted appointments for HBO Max, including the recent hires of VP of drama David Poynter and the arrival of Maura Feerick, who has become director of drama.

“We are proud to have a drama team that reflects a variety of voices, tastes and points of view,” Chavez said. “Bringing together the best people who come from studios, networks and various genres, gives us a great mix of backgrounds to tap into. It’s this collective of skills and diversity that will create the kind of signature dramas that will be unique to HBO Max.”

Earlier this week, WarnerMedia chairman Bob Greenblatt set out HBO Max’s global ambitions, calling for international acquisitions and co-productions for the forthcoming platform.

Shows on the streamer’s scripted slate include Ridley Scott’s Raised By Wolves as well as Paul Feig and Anna Kendrick’s Love Life, while a Grease spin-off is also coming to the platform.
