Discovery signs up for Kinetic Content’s ‘Man vs. Bear’ competition
Discovery has commissioned Red Arrow Studios-owned Kinetic Content for an unscripted competition series pitting man against grizzly bear.
Man vs. Bear, which will debut on 4 December, finds a group of three grizzly bears – all of whom were rescued as cubs and cared for by a Utah couple – taking on human competitors at their sanctuary.
The challenges will be based on the bears’ natural instincts and predatory skills and actions. A final challenge will involve a showdown between bear and human.
The series will also include commentary from experts Brandon Tierney and Casey Anderson.
Los Angeles-based Kinetic Content is one of the most prominent US producers in the Red Arrow Studios portfolio, with a slate that includes Married At First Sight, Buying It Blind and Seven-Year Switch.
Red Arrow Studios is currently on the sales block, following a strategic review by parent group ProSiebenSat.1. The German media firm appointed Morgan Stanley to handle a sale back in September.
Executive producers for Kinetic Content include Chris Coelen, Eric Detwiler, Vincent Cariati, Steve Kaufman, Paul Lima and Karrie Wolfe, while Discovery EPs include Joseph Boyle and Bill Howard, while Jessica Mollo is associate producer.
