HBO Max in talks for potential reunion of ‘Friends’ cast

WarnerMedia’s forthcoming streamer HBO Max is in talks for an unscripted reunion of the Friends cast.

Details of the show remain scant but the special would likely see the sitcom’s cast appearing together, something alluded to by former cast member Jennifer Aniston last month.

The programme would form part of HBO Max’s launch plans for the show on its soon-to-launch streamer, having paid north of $425m for US rights earlier this year.

The sitcom, which ran from 1994 to 2004 on NBC, has most recently been available on Netflix and became one of the streamer’s most popular shows.

Friends has been celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and Aniston recently marked her arrival on Instagram with a selfie alongside co-stars Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer, prompting further discussion.

The show’s creators, Marta Kauffman and David Crane, would also appear on the unscripted reunion series, according to THR, which first reported the news.

While talks around a potential reunion are at the early stages, the chances of a Friends reboot still look very unlikely. Crane and Kauffman have previously said they will not return to the series, something Aniston also recently reiterated.
