Fox drama ‘House’ to be remade in Turkey by Kanal D

Turkish broadcaster Kanal D has commissioned a local version of hit US drama House, the medical series that aired on Fox in the US for eight seasons until 2012.

The remake will be produced by Red Arrow Studios-owned Karga Seven Pictures Turkey and is to be known as Hekimoğlu. It has been written by Banu Kiremitçi Bozkurt and directed by Hülya Gezer, with Karga Seven’s Ömer Özgüner and Ümmü Burhan serving as executive producers.

Karga Seven Pictures Turkey secured rights to the show from NBCUniversal International Formats. Universal Television produced the original show, which starred Hugh Laurie and won five Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes and a Peabody Award.

Turkish actor Timuçin Esen takes the role played by Laurie, with Okan Yalabık, Ebru Özkan, Kaan Yıldırım, Damla Colbay and Aytaç Şaşmaz among other cast members.

The format has previously been adapted in Russia and joins new Netflix series Ottoman Rising (working title) on Karga Seven’s slate, along with drama series Her Yerde Sen for Fox Turkey.

Ömer Özgüner, CEO of Karga Seven Pictures Turkey, said: “We have wanted to produce a local version of House MD for many years, and are delighted that Turkey will finally get its own Dr Gregory House, and that his home will be Kanal D.”

Red Arrow Studios was put up for sale by parent ProSiebenSat.1 earlier this year, with companies including
Sony Pictures Television and All3Media understood to be among leading suitors for the production division, as revealed by TBI.
