Quibi orders Marvel vs DC Comics docuseries with Russo brothers onboard
Quibi has ordered a docuseries exploring the rivalry between comic book publishers Marvel and DC, with Avengers: End Game directors Anthony Russo and Joseph Russo onboard.
The duo will executive produce Slugfest, which has been inspired by Reed Tucker’s book Slugfest: Inside the Epic, 50-year Battle between Marvel and DC.
The show will explore how the two publishing houses rose to prominence and how momentous occasions in the two companies’ histories, including the handshake between Superman and Spiderman in the 1970s.
Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce will direct, while Todd Makurath, Peter Rieveschl, Nick Gilhool and Jen Casey are producing for Wonderbust (aka Roam), the non-fiction division of the Russo brothers’ prodco AGBO Films.
The Russo brothers have been behind shows including Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Winter Soldier.
Quibi is set to launch in April and has been rapidly ramping up commissioning over the past six months, ordering a daily hip-hop show from Complex Networks as well as a dance competition series in recent months. In October, the Jeffrey Katzenberg-fronted service revealed it had sold out of advertising spaces for its first year.
