‘McMafia’, ‘Real Full Monty’ among International Emmy winners

UK series McMafia has picked up the International Emmy Award for drama at the 47th edition of the annual ceremony in New York.

The BBC and AMC drama, produced by Cuba Pictures, follows the English-raised son of Russian exiles who is drawn into a life of crime when his family’s murderous past returns to threaten them. It debuted on the BBC and AMC last year and was also picked up globally by Amazon.

Elsewhere, ITV and Spun Gold’s series The Real Full Monty: Ladies Night was named best non-scripted entertainment show, with the show requiring celebrities to strip for charity.

Other winners at the ceremony, which took place at the New York Hilton, included Haluk Bilginer, who took best performance by an actor for his role in Şahsiyet (Persona). Marina Gera, who starred in Hungarian show Orok Tel (Eternal Winter) took the award for best performance by an actress.

Bellingcat: Truth In A Post-Truth World, from Submarine Amsterdam and VPRO in the Netherlands, was named best documentary, and Brazilian series Especial De Natal Porta Dos Fundos (The Last Hangover) took the comedy prize.

Other winners included crime drama Falco, which was named best non English-language US primetime programme, and Colombia’s La Reina Del Flow (The Queen Of The Flow), with the Caracol TV series taking the telenovela prize.
