Red Arrow joins ‘Harvey Girls’ with Seven Stories and Atalaya Productions
Red Arrow Studios International (RASI) has partnered with All3Media-backed Seven Stories and US-based Atalaya Productions to develop a female-led series based on the ‘Harvey Girls’ in early 1900s America.
Harvey Girls is being written by Liz Lake (Riviera) and is based on research from Lesley Poling-Kempes’ non-fiction book The Harvey Girls: Women Who Opened The West.
The show explores the chain of high-class hotels and restaurants known as Harvey Houses, which were built along the Santa Fe Railroad. The drama will follow the young women who worked and lived full time in these establishments, drawn by the opportunity to escape and earn good pay.
The series, set across the 1920s and 1930s, will explore themes of identity, sexuality, sisterhood and female independence as the characters embark on a voyage into the unknown.
Seven Stories’ Sharon Maguire, Anand Tucker and Colleen Woodcock will executive produce, alongside Giovanni Orlando for Atalaya Productions, and Carlo Dusi for Red Arrow Studios International.
Dusi, EVP of commercial strategy for scripted at RASI, said the show was “exactly the sort of bold and ambitious drama we like to support at Red Arrow and we are looking forward to working with this best-in-class talent to create a compelling, globally-appealing series.”
All3 emerged as a leading contender to acquire Red Arrow Studios last month, as revealed by TBI, with the sales process for ProSiebenSat.1’s production arm entering the final stages.
