HBO Max strikes development deal to visit ‘The Beach’
HBO Max has agreed a script development deal for The Beach, a one-hour drama based on the book Beach Lane by author Melissa de la Cruz.
Life Sentence creators Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith are writing and executive producing alongside Vampire Diaries co-creator Julie Plec through her Warner Bros. TV-based My So-Called Company, Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo of Alloy Entertainment, and Jenna Dewan for Everheart Productions.
Everheart Productions’ Jean Song is co-producing.
The series follows three local teens who work in the Hamptons’ estates, beach clubs, and boats over one summer as their lives and hearts become increasingly intertwined with wealthy families who swoop in from the city for the summer season.
The HBO Max streaming service is set to launch in May, taking on existing platforms including Disney+, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Other upcoming HBO Max adaptations include Americanah, a 10-parter based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s bestselling novel.
