RTE greenlights original travel format from Green Inc
Northern Ireland indie Green Inc is producing a new original travel entertainment format, High Road Low Road (w/t), for Irish public broadcaster RTE.
Each 6×30-min episode sees a pair of celebrity friends or colleagues embark on a holiday destination or city break where each traveller will get to enjoy a very different vacation experience.
At the departure airport they will choose envelopes, with one traveller set to enjoy the 5-star luxury treatment including a limo, restaurants and activities galore while the other gets to experience the exact opposite – a budget break with no frills in the same destination.
During the programme, the pair will meet up regularly to experience each other’s holiday and compare and contrast who really drew the short straw.
The cast of celebrities is drawn widely to include comedians, TV soap opera actors, singers, musicians and sports stars. RTÉ One is due to transmit High Road Low Road in a primetime early evening slot.
An original Green Inc. travel format, High Road Low Road was commissioned by Seán Mac Giolla Phadraig, RTÉ group head of factual; and Ray McCarthy, RTÉ commissioning editor of popular factual. Teresa Smith is executive producer for RTÉ while series producer for Green Inc is Bob O’Brien and executive producers for Green Inc. are Stephen Stewart and Zoe McGivern.
Stephen Stewart, MD of Green Inc., said: “It is first and foremost an entertainment programme so will be good fun, but it should also give viewers a contrasting view of places they may want to go visit this summer.”
Ray McCarthy, commissioning editor for popular factual at RTÉ, said: “As part of our drive to commission original Irish formats for RTÉ One and RTÉ2, this new format gives us a great opportunity to present an informative, celebrity-based travel show, in an engaging way for our audience.”
