US prodco NiteLite unveils new ‘lockdown’ programming strand
LA-based prodco NiteLite Pictures has launched the Coronavirus Positivity Initiative, a global effort to create programming that promotes “togetherness, community and celebrates the human spirit during the global lockdown.”
Under this new banner, NiteLite is launching a series of programmes that explores the “inspiring individuals” on the front lines of the fight against the pandemic, as well as comedy shows taking a “lighter look at life” during lockdown.
The company said it was launching the initiative in response to a “real demand” from its broadcast, web and distribution partners, as well as charities seeking support.
“This is truly a unique time in the world’s history,” said NiteLite producer Ari Wilhelm. “While everyone is doing their part to help keep family and communities safe, there is a need for entertainment content like never before, and specifically relevant, uplifting content that is understanding and respectful of the situation we are all living.”
NiteLite will also produce “self-quarantine-based” content designed to connect with audiences. The company’s homebound, creative teams are currently developing quick-turnaround programming that can be produced remotely.
The NiteLite initiative comes just a day after HBO Europe announced a new five-part anthology series based around the theme of confinement, with an array of Spanish talent creating a self-shot five-part drama while in isolation.
