‘Gogglebox’ format gets US celebrity spin on Fox
All3Media-owned UK-and-LA-based prodco Studio Lambert has given its Gogglebox format a celebrity spin and launched it as Celebrity Watch Party for Fox in the US.
The hour-long reality series gives viewers a chance to enter the homes of famous names and watch as they react to some of the week’s most interesting TV shows.
Actor Rob Lowe (Parks And Recreation, The West Wing), singer-songwriter Megan Trainor and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak are among those confirmed for the premiere episode, which will air on 7 May, with more participating names yet to be announced.
Studio Lambert’s Gogglebox format originated on the UK’s Channel 4 in 2013 and has remained the broadcaster’s highest-rated show since 2014, winning numerous awards.
It has gone on to become one of the most successful unscripted formats in the world, produced in more than 35 countries.
This is not the first time that the format has travelled to the US, with the non-celebrity version The People’s Couch airing for four seasons from 2013 to 2016 on the NBCUniversal-owned Bravo channel.
“Celebrity Watch Party is a fantastically innovative, clever and culturally relevant format that brings families together to celebrate all the best films, entertainment shows and news on television on any given week,” said Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox Entertainment. “We’ve got some incredible personalities inviting us into their homes and onto their couches for an hour of pure fun with them, their families and the viewers at home.”
“We’re delighted so many famous people love the idea of this show and want to be part of it,” said Studio Lambert CEO, Stephen Lambert. “It’s a show which asserts the indispensable role of TV in the fabric of people’s lives and the way it’s at the heart of the nation’s weekly conversation, especially in these unusual times.”
