Disney+ to launch in eight more European countries

Disney+ will expand into a further eight European countries on 15 September.

A little under a year after its initial November 2019 launch, the streamer will be switched on in Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Belgium and Luxembourg.

As per its pricing in the likes of The Netherlands and France, Disney+ will cost €6.99 (USD$7.89) per month or €69.99 for a year in Portugal, Belgium, Finland, Iceland and Luxembourg. Meanwhile, Norwegian customers will pay NOK69 (USD£7.24) per month or NOK689 per year, the Swedish will pay SEK69 (USD$7.40) per month or SEK689 for the year, and those in Denmark will have access to the SVOD for DKK59 (USD$8.94) per month of DKK589 per year.

Thanks to its huge library of iconic Disney-owned content along with the breakout original series The Mandalorian, Disney+ has already captured an impressive subscriber base, with the company revealing in May that it already had in excess of 50 million users.

Speaking during Disney’s most recent quarterly earnings call, CEO Bob Chapek said: “We have been thrilled with the performance of the service since our initial launch in November and we continue to expand into other markets. In late March, as planned and despite COVID-19, we had an incredibly successful launch of Disney+ in Western Europe, followed by a highly successful launch in India.”
