Trevor Noah to front new Quibi gaming series
Quibi is launching a new video gaming series, fronted by South African comedian and TV presenter Trevor Noah.
Noah, who is best known as the host of Comedy Central’s satirical US news programme The Daily Show, also claims to be a proficient games player, and will have his abilities put to the test in Player Vs Player With Trevor Noah.
The series is being produced by Comedy Central Studios and Noah’s Day Zero Productions and will see Noah go head to head on a variety of gaming titles and consoles against e-sport pros, Twitch streamers and other celebrities.
Noah and Haroon Saleem are executive producing for Day Zero Productions, alongside Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin for Mainstay Entertainment and Bob Bain for Bob Bain Productions.
Quibi says that the show will offer “much fun and competitive banter between Noah and his prospective rivals.”
The streamer, which launched in April, has got off to a rough start, failing to attract as many users as its target and last week it was revealed that only 8% of users who signed up for Quibi’s 90-day free trial decided to stick with the service afterwards. Quibi founder Jeffrey Katzenburg has placed the blame of the slow uptake at the feet of Covid-19.
