Fox rejigs fall plans to pair up Korean formats

US network Fox has moved up the launch of its new show I Can See Your Voice to the fall schedule so that it will now debut right after the season four premiere of The Masked Singer on 23 September, creating a music competition double bill, with both shows based on South Korean formats and featuring Ken Jeong.

I Can See Your Voice is hosted and executive-produced by comedian, actor and The Masked Singer panellist Jeong. He is joined by actor Cheryl Hines and TV host Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, along with a rotating panel of celebrity guests, to help one contestant tell the good singers from bad in a roster of performers – without ever hearing them sing.

With a $100,000 cash prize on the line, the contestant must make their decision based on a series of clues, interrogation, and lip synch challenges, before the singer that they pick reveals just how good or bad or bad they are in a duet performance with a musical superstar.

I Can See Your Voice is produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment and based on the South Korean format from CJ ENM. James McKinlay and Craig Plestis serve as exec producers, alongside Jeong.

“Safely filming I Can See Your Voice this summer was a win in itself, but when we saw the pure magic of the show and felt the palpable suspense in the room before that first note hit, we knew we had to share it with audiences this season,” said Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox Entertainment. “It’s no secret that viewers need a little fun and escape now and, as a companion to an all-new season of The Masked Singer, this will be a fantastic night of family entertainment – and a fantastic night of Ken Jeong.”

The fourth season of The Masked Singer also launches that same night and feature Jeong on the panel, alongside Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke, and host Nick Cannon.

The show is also produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment and based on the South Korean format created by Mun Hwa Broadcasting Corp. Craig Plestis, Rosie Seitchik, Nick Cannon and James Breen serve as executive producers, with the latter also acting as showrunner.
