News round-up: Beyond to sell Barcroft’s sex docuseries; UK’s ITV orders Dunblane tragedy special
Beyond takes Barcroft’s Sex Unlimited global
Beyond Rights has struck a deal to distribute a set of films that look at the unorthodox side of people’s sex lives, produced by Future-owned producer Barcroft Studios.
Sex Unlimited (5 x 60-minutes, working title) follows a variety of characters and explore how their unconventional approach to sex enhances their lives, complements their relationships and also offers contemporary business opportunities.
Beyond Rights holds exclusive worldwide rights to the films, excluding the UK and US, and is distributing the project as a docuseries as part of its Autumn slate. Executive producer for Barcroft is Peter Wyles.
The films have received a commission from an undisclosed UK broadcaster.
UK’s ITV orders Dunblane tragedy special
ITV in the UK has ordered a 60-minute special to mark the 25th anniversary of the Dunblane Primary School tragedy, to be authored by Scottish presenter Lorraine Kelly and produced by Alaska.
Dunblane 25 Years On With Lorraine Kelly (working title) will follow Kelly as she investigates the repercussions of the horrific events, which remains the deadliest mass shooting in Britain’s history and caused the government to change gun laws in the country almost immediately after the tragedy.
Kelly, who reported on the events, forged enduring bonds with people in Dunblane and will now revisit the town and talk to survivors and families of the victims. Producers said the film will “celebrate the spirit and resilience of this community.”
It will also follow how the residents of Dunblane have helped the families of victims in American school shootings, such as Sandy Hook, providing support and inspiration in their quests to change US gun laws.
The film has been commissioned by Tom Giles, ITV controller of current affairs. It is being executive produced by Alaska’s MD Paul Sommers and creative director Ian Lamarra. Kim Maddaver will serve as producer.
