Beta Film closes global sales for ‘Atlantic Crossing’

Broadcasters in Russia, Australia and across Europe have picked up new wartime drama series Atlantic Crossing, ahead of its MIPCOM/Canneseries launch, following a range of deals struck by distributor Beta Film.

Produced by Cinenord, in co-production with Beta Film for Norway’s NRK, the 8 x 60-minute series has been sold to Italy’s RAI, Deutsche Telekom’s Magenta TV for Germany and Austria, France’s Chérie 25, Russia’s More.tv, Australian public broadcaster SBS, Forthnet for Greece and Cyprus and Lithuania’s LRT, among others.

Starring Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) and Sofia Helin (The Bridge), the series is set during World War Two and based on the true story of Norwegian crown princess Märtha, who flees from Norway and seeks refuge in the US’ White House, where she tries to convince President Roosevelt to help save her country and Europe from the Nazis.

However, Roosevelt does not want to alienate his voters, who are strongly opposed to the US entering the war, and Märtha realises the only way she can help Norway is to use her position to influence US politics.

Tobias Santelmann (The Last Kingdom), will also star in the series, which is set to premiere on NRK on 26 October.
