MIPCOM Drama round-up: NBCUI nabs ‘Wynonna Earp’; All3’s ‘All Creatures Great And Small’ travel; HBO Max adds ‘I Am Suzie’; and more

NBCUIN welcomes Wyonna Earp

NBCUniversal International Networks (NBCUIN) has picked up all four seasons of genre-bending supernatural series Wynonna Earp.

The show, sold by Cineflix Rights, will air on NBCUIN science fiction channels in Iberia, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland (Syfy) and in Poland and the Balkans (Scifi).

The show is produced by IDW Entertainment, Cineflix Studios, and Seven24 Films, originally airing on Syfy in the US and CTV Sci-Fi in Canada. The story follows Wyatt Earp’s great-granddaughter as she battles demons and other supernatural beings.

All Creatures Great & Small

Acorn, Sky buys All Creatures Great And Small

Streaming service Acorn and Sky in Germany are among those to have bought All Creatures Great And Small, the reboot of the classic show based on James Herriot’s bestselling novels.

The series, produced by Playground and sold by All3Media International, will be available via Acorn’s SVOD and AVOD service  in South and Central America, whilst in Europe, Acorn has taken SVOD and DVD rights for UK, Eire and Malta.

Sky Deutschland has taken broadcast rights in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and deals have also been signed with DR (Denmark), NRK (Norway), SVT (Sweden) and YLE (Finland). In addition, Filmin are aboard in Spain and Viasat World have taken rights in CEE for their Epic Drama Channel, whilst MTVA is taking rights in Hungary.

SVOD deals have been confirmed in Asia with BBC Global Channels for Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, and BBC Studios for their Taiwanese and Africa feeds. Sky in New Zealand has acquired rights whilst an SVOD service has picked up first window in Australia.

The show is already set to air on the PBS Masterpiece strand in the US and Canada, while it debuted in the UK o ViacomCBS Channel 5.

I Hate Suzie

HBO Max takes I Hate Suzie

US streamer HBO Max has taken exclusive rights to UK drama I Hate Suzie.

The eight-part series has been co-created and written by Lucy Prebble (Succession, Enron) and stars co-creator Billie Piper (Collateral, Doctor Who).

It debuted on Sky in the UK and tracks a woman as she goes through the stages of shock – denial, fear, shame, bargaining, guilt, anger and acceptance – after compromising pictures of her emerge online.

It is produced by Bad Wolf and has already been acquired by Aussie streamer Stan and Telus in Canada. The series is distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Global Distribution on behalf of NBCU-owned Sky Studios.

Globo unveils streamer originals

Brazilian giant Globo has unveiled a raft of new shows emerging from its relaunched streamer Globoplay.

The shows, which are being launched to global buyers as MIPCOM Online+ starts, include Unsoul, a supernatural thriller that premieres in Brazil late October, and police thrillers Renegade Archangel and Anti Kidnapping Unit.

Also on the launchpad is romantic comedy All The Women In The World, while Globo is also planning to hold a presentation of its new series Under Pressure – Covid Special, as part of MIPCOM Online+. The scripted show tracks two physicians as they return to Rio de Janeiro after a period of community work to help with Covid-19.

Viasat buys ZDFE’s Dead Still

Viasat World’s Epic Drama channel has picked up Dead Still from ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE).

The Irish-Canadian production debuts tonight on Epic Drama across CEE, CIS, Baltics, Malta and Turkey, while other deals have seen the show sold to Russian VOD service Showjet and French pay channel Polar+. All deals have been brokered by Mirela Nastase, director of ZDFE.drama.

Dead Still premiered in May on Canada’s Acorn TV and Citytv, and will air this autumn on RTÉ in Ireland.
