Showtime releases ‘Dexter’ to strike again in new limited series

US network Showtime is bringing back serial killer drama Dexter for a new 10-part limited series, set to enter production next year.

Original showrunner Clyde Phillips and series star Michael C Hall will both return, following an eight-year break, with the show tentatively set to air in fall 2021.

Dexter ran for eight seasons between 2006 and 2013, and followed Dexter Morgan (Hall), a serial killer who lived a double life as a police department forensic expert, while channelling his murderous instincts to do “good” by dispatching heinous criminals.

The original series is currently available via Showtime’s on-demand services, with the network set to produce the limited series, and Phillips and Hall attached to executive produce, alongside John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Bill Carraro and Scott Reynolds.

“Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” said Gary Levine, co-president of entertainment at Showtime Networks. “We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series.

“Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world.”
