US’ Bron Studios invests in UK ‘Small Axe’ prodco Turbine Studios
US-based prodco Bron Studios is investing in Turbine Studios, the UK outfit behind the Amazon and BBC anthology series Small Axe.
As part of the deal, Turbine will now work with Bron to develop and produce original IP from the UK and Europe, with Turbine acting as a strategic partner, supporting Bron’s TV and film productions across the continent.
Bron said that the investment in Turbine would give it greater influence for local commissions in the UK market.
Turbine is helmed by execs Andrew Eaton, Tracey Schofield, David Tanner and Justin Thomson. Eaton is known for his work as series producer on Netflix historical hit The Crown and recently teamed up with Michael Fassbender’s DMC Films to option the rights to the Kevin Barry novel Night Boat To Tangier.
Schofield and Tanner both serve as executive producers on Small Axe, the anthology series of five films focusing on London’s West Indian community that is currently airing on BBC1 in the UK and Amazon Prime in the US.
Bron’s current slate meanwhile includes an English-language adaptation of French series Call My Agent and western series That Dirty Black Bag.
