HBO developing ‘Game Of Thrones’ prequel ‘Dunk & Egg’

HBO has reportedly put a series adaptation of fantasy novelist George R.R. Martin’s Game Of Thrones prequel The Tales Of Dunk & Egg into development.

The project, based upon the novella series set in the shared world of A Song Of Ice And Fire, is just one of several Game Of Thrones prequel ideas being floated by HBO, which is looking to expand the franchise by bringing multiple spin-off shows to the screen.

One such prequel, House Of The Dragon, has already been handed a straight-to-series order and is expected to premiere next year.

It is understood that the Dunk & Egg project is in very early stages of development and no writer has yet been attached.

The novellas follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his companion Egg – the future king Aegon V Targaryen, around 90 years before the events in Game Of Thrones. The published stories include The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight.

Fantasy drama Game Of Thrones ran for eight seasons on HBO, from 2011-2019, based on Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire book series, which he is yet to complete.
